Dhaba owner assaulted for refusing liquor

Two days after Commissionerate Police conducted raids to penalise people drinking in prohibited places, a group of youths brutally assaulted a “dhaba” owner for refusing alcohol near Sundarpada here on Monday night.

Padmanabha Behera, who runs the eatery along Sundarpada-Jatni Road under Airfield Police limits, is battling for life. He was first rushed to the Capital Hospital before being shifted to SCB. One of his hands received the most attacks while the youths stabbed him several times in the back too.Police sources said the youths had come to dhaba to have dinner.

When they wanted to drink alcohol, Behera refused them. This led to an altercation and youths attacked him. Only two days ago, Police had formed over a dozen teams to crack down on illegal drinking. The raid had yielded a penalty of Rs 75,000. On Saturday, two bike borne miscreants had shot a businessman and looted cash from him in Unit VI area. Police have detained five persons.
