More than 150 National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers of Plus Two colleges have completed a week long programme ‘Kirtigourab’ aimed at providing the volunteers a taste of Odisha’s rich heritage.
The programme which started on June 1, took place inside Jaydev Vatika near Khandagiri.
Students from 23 Plus Two colleges took part in the State-level programme. The students from Puri, Cuttack, Khurdha, Jajpur and Jagatsinghpur districts participated in it.
NSS officials had also incorporated cleaning activities for the students into the programme.
The students were also involved in cleaning of Jaydev Vatika and top of the Khandagiri and Udaygiri hills.
Besides, they also levelled around 2.5 kilometres of uneven road inside Jaydev Vatika.
“The environmental activists, politicians, poets and many others representing different professions participated in the programme and delivered talks to the students,” said the NSS State coordinator Ramesh Behera.
They delivered lectures on culture and heritage of the State and the role of NSS for its protection. A Volunteer Parliament was also organised for the students where they debated on different issues including Naxals and extremism.
The students also staged cultural programmes in the evening.
