The Utkal University has dropped its plan for introducing Utkal University Joint Entrance Examination this year with the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) agreeing to share its merit list with the University for admission of students to various professional courses.

The University had planned to introduce Utkal University Joint Entrance Examination due to alleged lack of coordination with the OJEE over selection of candidates for its technical courses like Master in Business Administration (MBA), Master in Computer Application (MCA) and Master in Pharmacy (MPharm). The three courses have 60 seats each. Every year, Utkal University and other State universities have been selecting candidates from the OJEE list for their technical courses. The Utkal University authorities had alleged that they had been facing lack of coordination with the OJEE for the last few years.

Sources in the University said as on today, even as they have received confirmation from OJEE regarding sharing of merit list for MBA and MCA, there has been no official intimation regarding admission to MPharm. On the other had, OJEE officials said they had no problem in sharing the students list with University. “Both OJEE and Utkal University come under the purview of the State Government.

There has been no issue on our part, but if they have problems with coordination they can approach the Department of Employment & Technical Education & Training,” said Priyabrat Sahu, secretary of OJEE committee. Besides these three technical courses, the University admits students to over 15 professional courses every year and each department in-charge of the courses holds its own entrance examination.

Meanwhile, application forms are pouring in for e-admission into various PG courses in the University. PG Council Chairman of the University PK Mishra said this year, they have asked the students to apply online and also send a hard copy of their application form along with copies of necessary certificates and demand draft to the University.

“We will verify the applications submitted online and those received offline before issuing the admit cards. Besides, students need to download acknowledgement and admit cards against their applications from the e-admission website of the varsity itself. These will not be sent through mail,” said Mishra. The last date of submission of forms in respective departments is June 25.
