The Odisha Jana Morcha (OJM) on Saturday demanded the immediate dismissal of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for his all-round failure, including the growing crime against women in the State.
A four-member delegation of the OJM, led by its president Pyarimohan Mohapatra, met Governor S C Jamir and submitted a memorandum listing the omission and commission of the BJD Government in the State.
Alleging that the Chief Minister is trying to intimidate his opponents by implicating them in framed-up charges, Pyari said the latest was the arrest of OJM secretary general Jagneswar Babu to create a sense of fear among the party leaders.
The Rajya Sabha member alleged that the Chief Minister tried to stop OJM’s rally on Saturday against the arrest of Jagneswar by not giving police permission.
“We had to take out the rally without police permission to assert our democratic rights,” Pyari said and added that during the last seven months, his and other Morcha leaders’ telephones have been tapped, special branch has been deployed to keep him under surveillance and even SOG personnel were posted outside his residence to intimidate him.
The Chief Minister has also failed to check the gangrapes, rapes, murders, dacoities, kidnapping of children and other offences as the Home Minister, he said and alleged that he has not kept his election promise to create employment opportunities for 15 lakh youths.
Pyari alleged that as elections are round the corner, policies for youths and farmers are being announced by the Chief Minister only to hoodwink them.
OJM vice-president Rajendra Singh, treasurer Sarat Mishra and youth wing president Babi Mishra accompanied him.
