Former Director-General of Police (Vigilance) and noted litterateur Rajendra Narayan Das passed away at his Chandni Chowk residence here on Monday. He was 83 and survived by two sons, Managing Director of Odisha Forest Development Corporation (OFDC) Siddhanta Das and advocate Simanta Das.

 Das, who did his post-graduation from Allahabad University and LL.B. from Madhusudan Law College here, joined IPS in 1955. He served as the SP of Koraput, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj and Commandant of Fifth Battalion of OSAP. On promotion, he was posted as DIG of Rourkela and Sambalpur, Additional IG and Special IG before attaining the top seat of the DGP (Vigilance). He received the Police Medal for meritorious service in 1975 and 1987.

 Das also earned fame as a writer with several short stories and plays to his name. His ‘Narayananka Gotimukti’ was conferred the State Award in 2011. His autobiography ‘Bedara Diary’ is being preserved as an indispensable collection in different Government and other libraries of the State.
