Family members of an engineer of Balasore district who was working in South Africa have demanded an impartial probe into their son’s mysterious death. Alleging that he was killed, they have approached the South African embassy on Tuesday.
An electronics and telecommunication engineer Kiran Kumar Singh (28) of Sarasankh village under Soro police limits had died in Hoamu Regional hospital in Angola’s Luanda city in South Africa on May 19.
His family members said though initially they were informed that he was injured in an accident on May 17 while returning to his residence from workplace, they suspected he was killed by his officials of his company as he had demanded salary as per an agreement.
After working for two years in Mumbai-based GTL Telecom Company, Kiran had joined Luanda-based AITC company in November last year with a monthly salary of `1.8 lakh per month.
While he was on tourist visa for three months, he had extended it for another three months in February after his marriage. He was to return back to India on Monday. His father Uday Singh said during the last conversation with his wife, Kiran had told that he had a heated argument with his boss over settlement of his salary payments. His family members who met Balasore Collector Ranjit Mohanty on Monday alleged that Kiran was killed, but they were given an impression that he died in an accident.
Justifying his suspicion, Uday said as per sources in the company, Kiran’s car met an accident near Waku Kung when he was returning to his residence after finishing field work. “Surprisingly, the driver was unhurt and is absconding ever since then,” said Uday, demanding an impartial inquiry.
On Tuesday, they wrote to the South African embassy over the issue and met Chief Secretary Bijay Patnaik urging him to take up the matter with the External Affairs Ministry.
They have also appealed the Government to make arrangements for bringing Kiran’s body back.
