Flood strictures to Collectors

Revenue Minister SN Patro on Tuesday directed Collectors of 10 districts coming under the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (Central) to remain prepared to face any eventuality due to flood and cyclone.

The Minister through video-conference with the Collectors and senior officers of the line departments directed to close the breaches on river embankments and strengthen ring roads at vulnerable points.

District level officers of the Water Resources Department told the Revenue  Minister that all the major breaches have been closed except three in Nayagarh district.

Nayagarh Collector assured that the three breaches will be closed by June 5.

Jajpur Collector told the Minister that construction of Rudhia bridge on river Budha is under construction. The 120-year-old bridge collapsed in 2011 flood.

Similarly, another bridge which collapsed in 2009 near Daspalla has not been constructed.

The Minister further directed the  Collectors to make emergency cell in the district headquarters operational from June 1. They were asked to stock sufficient ration, medicine and other essential items in each block headquarters to meet the exigencies.

The Collectors of the ten districts were also asked to submit the utilisation certificates for the funds allocated for the last year by June 4.

Revenue Secretary Taradutt, Special Relief Commissioner PK Mohapatra, Revenue Divisional Commissioner Arvind Padhee and the senior officers of  the line department were present.
