The State Government has proposed to open a Digital University to provide e-facilities to the students of all colleges and universities across the State.
Under the project, Department of Higher education (DHE) will provide various online facilities like online transfer certificates and hall tickets. The students will also be allowed to apply for college examinations online which is currently done manually.
The State Government had convened a meeting of all university heads to discuss the project recently. DHE has roped in Odisha Knowledge Corporation Limited (OKCL) to implement the project.
Facilitation centres will be set up in the colleges to assist in implementing the project. Since the colleges already have the required hardware, OKCL will provide the software. “Every student will be provided his login ID and password which he can use to access the online facilities for which he will be charged ` 150 annually,” said OKCL Managing Director Santosh Birari.
Other information like job vacancies, competitive examinations, and e-content specifically tailored for the respective colleges can be availed under the project. “A group of people will be assigned the job of scanning the job advertisements and upload them online under the categories of Science, Commerce and Arts related,” said Birari. The college professors can upload the subject notes, he added.
The project will be tested in the educational institutes this year before being implemented in 2014-15 academic session. The college officials will also be trained for handling the new software under the project.
