Concern over rickety healthcare services

Members of Zilla Swasthya Samiti on Tuesday expressed concern over poor healthcare system in the district. Criticising poor infrastructure in several hospitals, CHCs and PHCs at a meeting, they demanded appointment of doctors and specialists in the health centres.

The Chief District Medical Officer said 58 posts of doctors and scores of support staff were lying vacant.

While over Rs16 crore allocated for implementation of schemes on inoculation, child and family welfare, pulse polio, TB control and leprosy eradication, pre and post-natal care and maternity care remained unspent.

Zilla Parishad president Debraj Behera, Pipili MLA Pradip Maharathy and PRI office-bearers also raised their voice against poor healthcare facilities in the district. Law Minister Maheswar Mohanty directed the officials to take initiatives to implement the schemes effectively.

SK Praharaj the Chief of the district rural health mission presented the report while CDMO Gyanendra Sahoo conducted the proceedings of the meeting.
