Close to 70 per cent students have cleared the CHSE Plus-Two examination this year. The results were announced here on Wednesday. Keeping with the trend, girls outshone boys this time too.
The combined pass percentage of all the three streams stood at 69.4. Higher Education Minister Badri Narayan Patra, who announced the results, said Dhenkanal district has the topped the pass percentage in Science and Arts streams, with 85.70 and 82.33 success rate respectively.
Khurda district registered the best pass percentage in Commerce stream with 80.67. The overall pass percentage in Science stream saw a marginal dip from 72.53 last year to 72.07 this year. Similarly, the Arts stream also saw a slight fall from 70.63 last year to 69.59 this year. However, the pass percentage for Commerce has improved from 67.03 last year to 68.10 this year.

There was no merit list this year for the examination as the State Government had decided to do away with the system, the Plus-Two question paper leakage controversy being the reason. This has marred the celebrations that generally take place after the announcement of results.
Asked about the status of investigation into the question paper leakage, the Minister said probe was going on and action will be taken after the report is submitted.
More than 28 lakh students had appeared for the examination, of which around 36,000 students managed to score first division in all the three streams.
Controller of Examinations of CHSE Jasobanta Behera said this year, premier colleges such as BJB Autonomous College, Ravenshaw Junior College, GM College and some non-government colleges performed better. A majority of the students from these colleges have scored first division.
Behera said some new colleges have fared badly in the examinations. The six private colleges, which are under the ambit of Crime Branch investigation, showed a performance akin to last year. The districts which secured low percentage this year are Nuapada in Science stream, Doegarh in Commerce stream and Sundargarh in Arts stream. A total of 2,717 students have been booked for malpractice.
