Nabard to implement Wadi project

National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has planned to implement Wadi (small orchard) project for upliftment of the tribals and poor through horticulture and plantation in tribal dominated and Maoist affected Kankadahada block of the district. In first phase, the project will cover 1,000 families by strengthening  their sources of livelihood. 

Before making the project operational, socio-economic survey and collection of data on social and geographical factors are in progress.

The project will be implemented by involving civil society organisations to ensure transparency, said SN Mallick, Nabard AGM who visited the block.

Mallick said the beneficiaries will grow cash crop and take up plantation on their own land and the land provided by government under Forest Rights Act for their rehabilitation. Training and counselling will be extended to the tribals, he added.

Sustainable livelihood for tribals, soil  conservation, women empowerment, community welfare, inter-cropping, short term activities, poultry and mushroom farming, health service, capacity building and resource mobilisation are other priority areas of the project, Nabard officials said.
