The Central Action Committee (CAC) of All Western Odisha Bar Association (AWOBA), which met here on Thursday to chalk out future course of their agitation following success of western Odisha bandh called by them on Wednesday, resolved to suspend the agitation.
The decision was taken in view of beginning of electoral process even as the lawyers were reportedly under pressure from the district administration to keep their agitation on hold failing which it would reopen offices with the help of police.
However, the CAC has kept its options open and would resume agitation after the general elections are over and go to their respective offices wearing black badges throughout the period.
They have also resolved to attend urgent cases in various courts and refrain from routine court work to keep the pressure on the State Government. The meeting also decided to call off the ongoing relay hunger strike in front of the office of the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (North).
Senior member of CAC Sureswar Mishra said since model code of conduct will be enforced in a couple of days, the State Government cannot take any decision or make any announcement.
Hence they decided to allow the administration to run smoothly and all State and Central Government offices will function smoothly and normally from Friday.
Moreover, all annual examinations are also round the corner and they decided not to put people in any kind of inconvenience.
Mishra said next meeting of CAC is scheduled for March 15 when future course of action will be decided. Besides, the lawyers will continue their agitation on the last three working days of every month as usual, he added.
