The foundation stone for Bhubaneswar Club II was unveiled by its founder member, Jugal Kishore Jhunjhunwala here on Saturday.

The new club will be constructed near SOS village, in Shyampur and will be spread on five acres land. Speaking on the occasion, Jhunjhunwala reminisced about the days when the club was newly formed in 1949. He lauded the efforts taken by the existing members in expanding the club and taking it to new heights.

Bhubaneswar Club president, Priyabrata Patnaik said the objective of opening another club was to provide additional facilities which were lacking in the existing club due to space constraints. The new features will include  - a squash court, badminton courts, astroturf tennis court, a gymnasium, one digital library, four restaurants and a banquet hall with a capacity to accommodate 2000 people at a time.  One golf simulator, one room with a driving simulator and a putting green for playing golf will also be constructed at the new club. It will also have 50 rooms to house guests of the members.

The proposal for a new club was pending since a few years due to unavailability of land. Patnaik said, initially they were provided five acre land near Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB), but half of the area was encroached. The alternative land near SOS Village was finalised recently.

First phase of the construction will be completed by December 2016 and the second by December, 2018.

The total project is expected to cost `36 crore.
