BHUBANESWAR: Construction work of the Paradip oil refinery will be over by December and a roadmap will be prepared for petrochemical industrial cluster in the region during the next three months.

This was announced by Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan during his meeting with Industries Minister Debi Prasad Mishra at New Delhi on Wednesday. Mishra requested the Union Minister to expedite completion of the prolypropylene and ethelyne units and mixed feed cracker complex of the Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemical Investment Region (PCPIR) project at Paradip which includes the oil refinery.

Pradhan said 96 per cent of the work of the PCPIR has already been completed. He asked the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) to prepare a roadmap for the project after consultation with the State Government and Petroleum Ministry.

Mishra attended a presentation by IOCL on Paradip refinery and downstream projects.

The Industries Minister met Union Minister of State for Commerce Nirmala Sitharaman and discussed about the possibilities of rapid industrialisation in the State.

Mishra, who also holds the school and mass education portfolio, met Union Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani and discussed establishment of an extension centre of National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA) in the State.

He assured the Union Minister that the State Government is ready to provide all facilities for establishment of the university in Odisha.

The School and Mass Education Minister demanded increase of central share under Sarva Sikhya Abhijan (SSA) from 65 to 75 per cent and sanction financial assistance of Rs 1,500 crore to the state for construction of dining halls, provision of LPG cylinders and improve midday meal system in more than 47,000 schools. He also demanded Rs 10.77 crore for modernisation of madrassas in Odisha.
