Hundreds of women from five villages blocked the State Highway connecting Bahadaposhi with Rourkela at Padampur Chhack on Thursday demanding removal of the country liquor brewing unit at Singhsal village.
The women from Aamgaon, Singhsal, Harekrushnapur, Padampur and Meghparsonpur villages including SHG members blocked the State Highway for four hours disrupting traffic movement.
They alleged that due to the unit, village men were spending their earning on liquor and resorting to domestic violence. The agitators were pacified after Excise and Police officials impressed upon them to move the higher authorities concerned on the issue.
