The Odisha Primary Education Programme Authority (OPEPA) has decided to prepare a vision document to facilitate implementation of quality education in elementary schools of the State.
OPEPA had recently conducted a meeting where different stakeholders of school based education participated. The purpose of the meeting was to deliberate on the loopholes in the education system and provide a solution for the problems.
The educationists stressed on the need for strengthening the reading, writing and comprehension capabilities of the students.
The School and Mass Education (S&ME) Department has put in place a scheme ‘Sahaj’ which aims at making Science and Mathematics learning more interactive. This scheme is meant for strengthening the comprehension capacity of a student. The vision document will encompass the suggestions put forth in the meeting conducted by OPEPA. S&ME Department Secretary Usha Padhee said the vision document will act as a target map for the goals which need to be achieved within a stipulated time. She added that they had prioritised boosting learning levels of the students in elementary schools.
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has devised new concepts for tracking teachers’ performance. Padhee said they were planning to implement a few of these concepts in the State. Tracking teachers’ performance is vital in ensuring quality education provided in schools.
It was also decided at the meeting that the quality action plan for about five years will be prepared wherein different developmental measures will be undertaken in a time bound manner. Different innovations in elementary education undertaken in other States will also be reviewed and implemented in the State.
