Subhashree Panda, wife of wanted Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda, filed her nomination papers for Ranpur Assembly seat on Monday.

Subhashree alias Mili, president of Ranpur-based outfit Janamanch Odisha, joined the Soumya Ranjan Patnaik-led Ama Odisha Party (AOP) on March 19.

Mili was arrested in 2010 and was in jail for two years for her alleged links with the outlawed CPI-Maoist party.

She was acquitted in 2012. She launched the Janmanch Odisha in 2013.

Her father-in-law Ramesh Chandra Panda had represented the Ranpur Assembly constituency thrice from 1971 to 1980 on  CPM ticket.

While former minister Surama Padhi is the BJP candidate from Ranpur, the Congress is yet to announce its nominee for the seat.

The Ama Odisha president also filed his nomination papers for Khandapada Assembly seat.

Patnaik had contested unsuccessfully the 2009 election from this seat on Congress ticket.

Meanwhile, Utkal Bharat Party president Kharabela Swain has filed his nomination papers for Balasore Lok Sabha seat.

Utkal Bharat is contesting the ensuing elections under ‘Pot’ symbol of the AOP.

The AOP has so far announced the names of candidates for 35 Assembly and six Parliamentary seats.

The Parliamentary seats are Bargarh, Balangir, Berhampur, Dhenkanal and Koraput.
