BHUBANESWAR: A day-long garment store for underprivileged population was put up ahead of Dussehra near Ram Mandir by City-based FM channel ‘Radio Choklate’ here on Tuesday.  Named as ‘The Street Store’, the initiative was an effort to support poor and homeless. Starting from Cape Town in South Africa to ensure that the poor have a dignified shopping experience, such stores have been hosted by about 33 cities in the world and this was the first such initiative in India, said curator of the event Tanaya Patnaik.

As many as 605 people came to the store and walked away with clothes, donated by other people, of their choice. The drive to collect new or used garments, bed-sheets, woolen wear and other accessories for the unique event started about a month back and donations had poured in from many parts of the State.
