Dissatisfied over the decision of BJD president Naveen Patnaik to renominate former minister Pratap Jena for Mahanga Assembly segment, Rudra Narayan Singh, general secretary of Cuttack district unit of the party has resigned from the party post.
Singh, a native of Lalitgiri gram panchayat in Mahanga, was leading the local dissident group which has been demanding a new face as the BJD candidate. The dissident group demanded party ticket to a new face alleging sidelining of senior party leaders by Jena.
Workers loyal to Jena were, on the other hand, seen celebrating after declaration of his candidature.
