BHUBANESWAR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday charged Mayurbhanj MP Rama Chandra Hansda and two former MLAs with bungling over Rs 8 crore in the Nabadiganta Capital Services chit fund scam.

Submitting its preliminary chargesheet before a special CBI court here on Thursday, the probe agency named six persons, including Hansda. Apart from two ex-MLAs Hitesh Bagarti and Subarna Naik, the chargesheet also named Nabadiganta’s Chairman and Managing Director Anjan Baliarsingh and two directors Pradip Patnaik and Kartikeya Parida.

The chargesheet said the six duped more more than Rs  8.3 crore from the investors by floating four companies. The chargesheet though named only Nabadiganta Capital Services Ltd (NCSL) and Nabadiganta Agro Industries Ltd (NAIL). Charges under Sections of 120(B), 409 and 420 of IPC and 4/5/6 of the Prize Chits and Money Circulation (Banning) Act, 1978 have been pressed against the accused.

Earlier in the day, investigating officer of the case Sanjay Kumar Samal and senior CBI counsel Kali Charan Mishra submitted before the Court of Special CJM (CBI) the 130-page chargesheet which contains 110 witnesses and a list of seizures.

This is the fourth chargesheet filed against as many companies by the CBI in the chit fund scam. Earlier, the probe agency had filed chargesheets in cases related to Green India, Artha Tatwa Group and Micro Finance Limited (MFL).

When the CBI took over investigation of the scam, Nabadiganta Capital Service Limited was the first case to come under its probe.

On July 31 last year, the agency had raided the houses of Hansda, Bagarti and Subarna Naik. From Hansda’s residence, it had seized Rs 28 lakh in cash and other documents. However, the MP and the two MLAs were arrested on November 4, about a week after Baliarsingh and the two directors of the company were held.

Nabadiganta is believed to have mobilised over Rs 100 crore from the investors by promising attractive returns.

Meanwhile, Hansda’s petition for interim bail to attend Parliament’s Budget session will be taken up for hearing by the Khurda District and Sessions Court on Friday.
