BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to promote budding artists, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has come up with an Art Gallery in the concourse area of the domestic terminal (T1) at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here.

The gallery would serve as a platform for upcoming artists to exhibit their creations and make a mark in the field.

The artist shall have a right to put a tag ‘for sale’ and the art work shall carry a price tag with it. The step taken by AAI will help promote local talent.

Art works created by well-known artists from Odisha have already been put on display in the gallery. Presently, the work by artist-couple Sovan Kumar, famous for modern day avatars, and Helen Brahma, well- known for her ‘Vahana’ series in textile paintings are on display.

Apart from Vahana, there are some works in terracotta and wood. More than 20 works by the couple are on display in the Art Gallery.

The attraction of the gallery is a 20 feet sculpture ‘Office Chair’. The idea behind the sculpture is to portray the world of employment. Other work of art is an eight-foot painting ‘The Love of Fire’.
