BHUBANESWAR:  In the economic growth of farmers and progress of financial institutions including cooperatives, Gujarat State Fertilisers and Chemicals (GSFC), a joint sector company with Gujarat Government, has been playing a stellar role.

Launched in 1962, the company has won more than 15 awards including prestigious National Golden Peacock Award for CSR for 2014. The erection of GSFC’s first plant began in 1966 and in the second year of production, the company earned profit and was able to show a higher agricultural yield from increased use of its fertilisers.

The string of expansion and diversifications, which began in 1969, with the application of modern technologies and processes has helped GSFC become not only a fertiliser major in India but also a company dealing with chemicals to energy besides fertilisers.

GSFC has also provided employment and ensured value to its stakeholders and launched three expansion programmes. It is also considering 10 new projects besides its global ventures.

GSFC’s research team has evolved a product which can have high commercial potential and can be applied in construction of concrete roads, bridges, airport runways and precast structures.

The company is focusing on reduction of greenhouse gas emissions as well as adaptation to the environmentally sound practices for preventing land degradation, protecting water supply sources and supporting rural livelihoods. Its CSR activities focus on enhancing human development index of population near its production locations through overall development of people.
