CM Stresses Media Role in Government Operation

BHUBANESWAR: Describing media as the mirror of society, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday said it plays a major role in helping the Government solve problems faced by the people. As the Government gets to know about various problems of people through the media, it helps in meeting the needs of the public, Naveen said while formally launching a news channel, ‘Kalinga TV’, here on Saturday.

 Stating that popularity of television news channels is growing day by day, the Chief Minister hoped Kalinga TV will be helpful in fulfiling the hopes and aspirations of Odia people.

Kalinga TV, a 24-hour news channel from the house of Kalinga Media and Entertainment, a unit of KIIT Group of Institutions, made its foray into the electronic media segment of the State here on Saturday. Naveen said both print and electronic media must work in unison and responsibly to fight injustice against the common man for holistic growth of the State.

 Launching the Website of Kalinga TV, Information and Public Relations Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak said media has a vital role to build a healthy society. News channels and print media should avoid negativity and present facts in an unbiased way, he said.

 Founder of Kalinga TV Achyuta Samanta said, the channel would work with an intent of positive journalism and refrain from sensationalising issues. Viewers are bored with negative news and Kalinga TV will present news in a positive manner which is constructive and in the larger interest of Odisha and its people, he said.

 Bhubaneswar MP Prasanna Kumar Patsani suggested that Kalinga TV should also work towards uplift of Odia language and culture. MLA of Bhubaneswar (North) Priyadarshi Mishra and Managing Director of Kalinga TV Himanshu Khatua also spoke. Raageswari Loomba, singer and actress delivered a motivational speech on the occasion.
