SAMBALPUR: Mother of the juvenile, who was brutally assaulted by the police personnel at Hirakud police station, on Friday lodged a complaint with Sambalpur SP Akhilesvar Singh demanding appropriate punishment to the suspended Inspector-in-charge of Hirakud police station Sabitri Bala.
The torture victim’s mother alleged that her son had not snatched any mobile phone but Bala falsely implicated her son. Demanding a secured future for her son, the minor’s mother claimed that the police had demanded `8,000 to release her child but she could arrange `6,000 following which the police released her son.
Although the incident took place on September 19 last year, the footage of the torture, aired by a local television channel on Wednesday, stirred up a hornet’s nest forcing the Sambalpur SP to order a probe.
Based on the report of Burla SDPO Abakash Routray, three police personnel, including Bala, were suspended and a Home Guard was dismissed from service on Thursday for their involvement in the incident.
