State plans 'smart' face for Capital railway station

BHUBANESWAR: Bhubaneswar railway station will get a facelift under the Smart City programme.

A multi-modal hub will be set up near the railway station which will provide a host of facilities to passengers including a railway terminal building, bus terminus and underground parking.

While the estimated cost of the project has been put at `340 crore, a tender document of the proposed hub will be ready within two weeks, Chief Executive Officer of Bhubaneswar Smart City Mission R Vineel Krishna told reporters after a high level meeting here on Monday.

Presiding over the meeting, Chief Secretary AP Padhi reviewed the progress of Smart City projects including automated traffic signalisation, phase-1 railway multi-modal hub (phase-I), Bhubaneswar-one (common GIS platform), Shantinagar Awas Yojana and Satyanagar institutional core area development.

The meeting decided that the number of automated traffic signaling system will be enhanced from 24 to 64. This project has been estimated to cost `10 crore and bid documents are ready. It has been targeted to develop the system within nine months.

Common Integrated GIS platform project will have online information about the City, land use, master plan, monuments, parking facility, educational and health institutions, travel routes, bus services and online tax payment. The Phase-I of the project is nearing completion at an estimated cost of `three crore.  The Satyanagar Institutional Core Redevelopment project has been envisaged over an area of 40 acres.
