BHUBANESWAR: Cartoon painting and rangoli art making will be the highlights in the ninth Raahgiri on Sunday. Apart from the art-based activities, new groups have enrolled to participate in cycling, skating and yoga events.

Balangir-based artist Khira Sindhu Bhoi and Bhawanipatna-based artist Manas Ranjan Panda, both experts on rangoli art, will lead the team of artists. They will focus their art on Smart City, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and the City.

Both have experience of creating public art for over a decade and have already organised several shows in various parts across India in the recent past. They participate not only in major art festivals but also art workshops and camps attended by noted artists. On the other hand, Aadar, a group set up by MBBS undergraduates studying in City-based medical colleges, will teach cartoon drawing to participants of all age groups.

There will also be some major changes in the distribution of different activity zones along the Janpath between Ram Mandir Square and Master Canteen to facilitate better cycling, skating, walking and other activities.

In order to minimise noise pollution across the venue, all participating organisations have been asked to use megaphones only except two areas where Zumba classes will be organised. However, for the two Zumba slots, this time, a lottery will be held among all applicants to draw two lucky ones.

“With active participation of more musical groups, controlling the crowd has become a major issue for us. We have decided to size down the music and dancing dose across the venue and unwanted sound systems will be seized,” a BDA official said.

BDA Additional Commissioner and in-charge of Raahgiri Bhabani Shankar Chayani said, “We will strictly monitor discipline this time at Raahgiri. Any group violating the norms in any manner will be dealt with sternly.”
