BHUBANESWAR: Hours after Plus II (Science) results were announced by Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), a 17-year-old student committed suicide in a private hostel at Unit III area here on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Minakshi Pradhan of Amaraula village in Astaranga block in Puri district. She was a Plus II Science student of a private university here.

Minakshi was a bright student and had enrolled into a coaching centre where she was preparing for engineering entrance examinations.

Disappointed with 59 per cent marks secured by her in the CHSE examinations, she took the extreme step, sources said.

On noticing Minakshi’s body hanging from the ceiling in her room, other inmates of the hostel informed the warden who reported the matter to Kharavela Nagar police.

“My daughter was a brilliant student. She aspired to be an engineer,” Minakshi’s father Chandramani Pradhan said, adding that she expected at least 80 per cent marks in the Plus II examination.

A case of unnatural death has been registered in this connection and the body sent for autopsy.

“Though no suicide note has been found, prima facie it appears that the teenager committed suicide as she was disappointed with her marks,” Investigating Officer Sandhya said.

Nayagarh tops with 94.23 pc
