Union Health Minister assures support to Odisha to fight Japanese Encephalitis

In view of the rising number of cases and reported deaths due to the vector-borne disease, Nadda has directed the officials.

BHUBANESWAR: Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare J P Nadda on Tuesday assured all support to the Odisha Government to manage the positive cases of Japanese Encephalitis which has assumed alarming proportion in Malkangiri district.

In view of the rising number of cases and reported deaths due to the vector-borne disease, Nadda has directed the officials from the Ministry to monitor the situation closely.

“We are in constant touch with the State government and will provide all support to ensure that quality treatment is done and deaths are prevented,” the Health Minister said in a statement.

On the direction of Health Minister, Union Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Department C K Mishra has also spoken to his State counterpart. He was informed that two teams from the State have
visited the endemic area for situation analysis.

Additionally, State Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak and Principal Secretary Arti Ahuja also visited Malkangiri and reviewed the situation besides monitoring the measures taken to contain it.

Apart from this, an eight-member joint clinical team under the leadership of Director of Public Health and Additional Director are also taking stock of the situation. Various initiatives for vector control, clinical case management, surveillance and awareness activities have been undertaken.

Ahuja also informed that the situation was under control and adequate steps had been taken to contain the disease.
