BARIPADA: Hurling of eggs at BJD ministers during programmes continues to embarrass the Odisha government. And chief minister Naveen Patnaik was not spared this time.
A young man allegedly hurled eggs at the chief minister during a public meeting in Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday.
Hrusikesh Patra of Tentulidinga village threw eggs aimed at the stage at the Suliapada High School when Naveen Patnaik was about to deliver a speech.
Though the egg missed the target as Patnaik was nearly 200 m away, local Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supporters pounced on the young man and thrashed him black and blue even as policemen tried to take him into custody.
An eye-witness said two policemen who tried to free Patra from the clutches of BJD supporters also were manhandled. Patra, a student of MPC (autonomous) College at Baripada, has been booked under
Sections 294, 383, 353, 506, 186 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code and arrested.
The CM toured Mayurbhanj to lay foundation stones for various projects in the district. Minister of state for ST and SC Development Sudam Marndi, Rajya Sabha MP Sarojini Hembram and MLA Prabin
Bhanjadeo accompanied him.
