BHUBANESWAR: In a shocking incident that reveals how the State’s Capital has become unsafe for women, a female employee of an electronic media production house was abducted and molested for over an hour in a moving car by three miscreants posing as police personnel. Two of the victim’s male colleagues were also thrashed by the imposters inside the vehicle which moved around Baramunda and Nayapalli areas of the City in the midnight.
At around 11.45 pm, the woman left her office at Baramunda for home in a cab. A little distance away, she spotted two of her male colleagues and stopped to have a chat. Suddenly, three heavily-built men came in a white Bolero and started beating the woman’s colleagues. They dragged her out of the vehicle. Even as the woman screamed for help, nobody from the public at Baramunda bus stand came to her rescue.
The miscreants then abducted the woman and her colleagues. She was forced to sit on the front seat and the three molested her simultaneously in the moving vehicle. The miscreants stopped the SUV near a community park in IRC Village where they snatched money and valuables from the woman and her colleagues.
“They asked my friends to get down from the vehicle and told them to arrange money. They said they would take me to Khurda. From their conversation, I could make out that the three were planning to rape me,” the woman said.
Meanwhile, one of her colleagues, Avinash, called up their manager and uttered the names of places like Jaydev Vihar, Nayapalli and CRP Square in a bid to indicate the horrifying situation they were in. On hearing screams of the woman on the background, the manager realised that his colleagues were in danger and called up the police.
Around five PCR vans were pressed to locate the vehicle. It took the police around half an hour to trace the Bolero and rescue the woman and her two colleagues. A case has been registered and the three miscreants arrested, DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said.
The accused were identified as Bikash Kumar Behera (24) and Banka Nidhi Sahoo (26) of Raj Sunakhala and Sushil Kumar Nayak (24) of Belapadar in Nayagarh district.
A week back, an elderly couple’s house was looted in the city raising serious questions on senior citizens’ security. Saturday night’s incident has revealed another ugly side of the Capital City and put the Commissionerate Police on back foot.
“I have been working in Bhubaneswar for the last six years and now feel that the City is no more safe for women,” the molest victim said.
