BJD forms team on Dalit minor gang-rape

Criticising police for their failure to nab culprits behind the gang-rape of a dalit minor in Sarispadar village under Pottangi block of Koraput district, convenor of BJD Scheduled Caste Cell and deputy chairperson of State Planning Board Bishnu Charan Das on Sunday demanded strong action against the guilty persons.

BHUBANESWAR: Criticising police for their failure to nab culprits behind the gang-rape of a dalit minor in Sarispadar village under Pottangi block of Koraput district, convenor of BJD Scheduled Caste Cell and deputy chairperson of State Planning Board Bishnu Charan Das on Sunday demanded strong action against the guilty persons.

Das also criticised the police for not taking any action for the attack on dalits allegedly by higher caste people of Limpada village in Muribahal block of Balangir district following a dispute over immersion of Ganesh idol. The former minister said a five-member committee headed by Ashok Mallik, general secretary of the cell, has been constituted to visit both the places and submit a report to the Chief Minister.
BJD secretary Bijay Nayak, former MLA Surendra Paramanik and general secretary of Scheduled Caste cell Niranjan Sethi were present.

Aruna Roy demands arrest of accused social activist and president of National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) Aruna Roy has demanded immediate arrest of accused involved in gang-rape of a  minor girl student in Koraput district.

Addressing the extended Odisha State Council meeting of Utkal Mahila Samity (UMS) here on Sunday, she expressed concern over the behaviour of armed forces which endangered the tribal lifestyle in tribal dominated areas.

She expressed agony on merciless attack on girl students of Banaras Hindu University and said the way BJP-led NDA government’s anti women attitude was displayed is deplorable.

“Modi Government is intruding into the privacy in the name of Aadhaar card,” she observed and called on the women community to be united and fight to save the unity in diversity which is under threat now.

Assemblies besides expressing concern over growing communal and nastiest violence by the fascist forces in the country.

Among others, UMS president Pramodini Paikrai and State Secretary Pravabati Das and other women leaders spoke.
