Muktikanta Biswal sets off on foot to meet Chief Minister

Muktikanta Biswal, who walked down to New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has set off on a new mission.

ROURKELA:  Muktikanta Biswal, who walked down to New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has set off on a new mission. On Monday, the Rourkela youth set off on foot to meet Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to seek his intervention in expediting two major Central projects in the Steel City. This time, Debi Prasad Das, another youth from the city, has joined him.

They would walk through seven districts and cover 480 km to reach the Capital City by August 18. Muktikanta said he would draw the attention of the Chief Minister towards the inordinate delay in upgradation of RSP’s Ispat General Hospital (IGH) and construction of second Brahmani bridge at Rourkela. Both the projects were announced by the Prime Minister on April 1, 2015. He would urge Naveen to take up the issues with Modi and also find out if the Odisha Government is willing to share 40 per cent cost of the IGH project as desired by the Prime Minister’s Office.

On April 16, Muktikanta had walked down from Rourkela to Delhi, covering about 1,550 km, to remind the Prime Minister of his promises. However, he could not meet Modi and was prevented from staging an agitation in Delhi. In a separate development, BJP members led by the party’s local unit president Jagabandhu Behera on Monday took out a march from Koelnagar market to Baikunth Ghat of Sector-20. They said a proposal to construct bridge-cum-barrage in the city has been kept in the cold storage by the BJD-led State Government and demanded immediate implementation of the project.
