Odisha's Bijepur to be a model Assembly constituency

Out of the 20 lift irrigation projects started in the constituency in December, 2017, ten have been completed by May, 2018.

BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday said the State Government is developing Bijepur as a model Assembly constituency in Bargarh district. He directed the departments engaged in various development projects in this regard to speed up the work at a review meeting.

According to official sources, a railway over bridge at Barpali, one canal service road and upgradation of Bijepur-Barpali road are being executed by Works department at a cost of Rs 9.38 crore. Construction of 11 roads has been completed at a cost of Rs 9.18 crore by the department.

Upgradation and repair of 29 roads out of 34 roads and 36 buildings undertaken by the Rural Development department has been completed. Construction of rest of the roads will be completed soon. Steps have also been taken for construction of a model school at a cost of Rs 2 crore at Bijepur. Besides, a bridge over Ong river with a project cost of `12.86 crore will be constructed.

While electrification of 182 villages out of 264 have been completed under the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gramjyoti Yojana, work is going on in 82 other villages. Besides, 61 transformers have been upgraded, official sources said and added that steps have been initiated solve the problem of low voltage in three blocks of the constituency.

However, the Chief Minister expressed his displeasure over delay in execution of 63 piped water projects in the constituency. Out of the 20 lift irrigation projects started in the constituency in December, 2017, ten have been completed by May, 2018. The projects being executed at a project cost of Rs 2.2 crore have potential to irrigate 440 hectares.

The mega lift irrigation project at Jamutpali which has been completed will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister soon. He directed the officials to start work on Gangadhar Meher Mega Lift Irrigation project as early as possible. He will again review the progress of the development projects after two months.
Minister for Water Resources Niranjan Pujari, Minister of State for Labour and Energy Sushant Singh, BJD MLA from Bijepur Rita Sahu, Chief Secretary AP Padhi, Development Commissioner R Balakrishnan and secretaries of different departments besides Bargarh Collector attended the meeting.
