FIR against Odisha MP Ranjib Biswal for offensive remark

An FIR has been registered against Rajya Sabha member and Congress leader Ranjib Biswal for his remarks against BJP leaders.

JAGATSINGHPUR: An FIR has been registered against Rajya Sabha member and Congress leader Ranjib Biswal for his remarks against BJP leaders. On the other hand, Congress has sought the intervention of  the district SP for initiating criminal action against BJP workers for resorting to hooliganism and vandalism against its leaders.

Biswal, during OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik's visit to the district on Thursday had, in a speech, made derogatory remarks against BJP leaders and described the party's district unit president as a goon.
Following Biswal's speech, several BJP leaders and workers staged a demonstration and burnt the effigy of the MP. They later lodged an FIR against the senior Congress leader. Meanwhile, police have registered a case against Biswal under Sections 294 and 500 of Indian  Penal Code.

On the other hand, working president of Nagar Congress Committee Pradipta Sahu alleged that some miscreants, identified as BJP workers, set fire to Congress banners and hoardings in Jagatsinghpur town. Sahu said the BJP workers abused the Congress leaders using objectionable language. The party leader lodged an FIR against the BJP workers following which a case was registered under sections 294,427,435 and 34 of IPC.

Besides, local Congress leaders, led by the party's district unit president Rabi Narayan  Mohanty, met Jagatsinghpur SP and submitted a memorandum demanding criminal action against BJP workers on Saturday.
