BHUBANESWAR: The State Government has decided to make ‘Model Schools’ or ‘Adarsh Vidyalayas’ functional in all 314 blocks by next year. According to School and Mass Education department Secretary Pradipta Mohapatra, the Government has planned to set up these schools in all 314 blocks and currently 160 model schools are in operation.

“We are starting another 30 model schools from the coming academic session which will take the figure to 190. We propose to ensure functioning of these schools in all blocks from next year,” Mohapatra said.

Initially, the Government started setting up these schools with the help of the Centre. After the Centre delinked the aid to the project in 2015-16, the State Government is setting up these schools on its own.
The Secretary said if the infrastructures would not be ready by next year, the Adarsh Vidyalayas will operate from nearby school buildings.

Funds have already been sanctioned for the purpose, sources said.
Officials of the department said around 68 model schools along with 400 hostels will be funded entirely from District Mineral Foundation (DMF) funds. The schools where the Central Board of  Secondary Education (CBSE) pattern is followed will act as Central School at block level, they said.

Apart from opening model schools, the Government has also decided to change the pattern of annual High School Certificate examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) and adopt the style of Central Board of  Secondary Education (CBSE) from next year.Last month, the School and Mass Education secretary had informed that a committee headed by the BSE president will be set up to give a final shape to the new pattern.
