Locals run amok over death of youth in Sambalpur city

SAMBALPUR: Tension gripped Stationpara in Sambalpur city as locals vandalised vehicles and ransacked several shops after a youth of the locality, who had sustained critical injuries in a clash on Diwali, succumbed while undergoing treatment at a private hospital on Thursday.

On November 2, a group clash broke out between groups of Stationpara and Munga Pada over a petty issue. The victim, Badal Tandi (28) of Stationpara sustained critical injuries on his head during the clash and was rushed to a private hospital where he succumbed.

Irked over Badal’s death, the residents of Stationpara blocked Khetrajpur road for three hours and vandalised several vehicles and ransacked shops in the locality. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Later, around two platoons of police force along with two SDPOs, one DSP, three ASPs and nine IICs were deployed at Stationpara-Mungapada border to prevent any untoward situation. Additional SP, Haresh Pandey said, “The situation is under control now. Our personnel are prepared to avert any untoward situation. The body will be handed over to the deceased’s family after autopsy.”
