BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday promised that Nuapada district, which has been neglected for a long time, will witness a new wave of development under the double-engine government.
Launching a high-decibel campaign at a well-attended Vijay Sankalp Samavesh near the airstrip ground of Nuapada, Majhi targeted the previous BJD government for making election promises that were never fulfilled. “Our government delivers on its promises. I have taken personal responsibility of Nuapada’s development, with over `1,100 crore worth of projects already announced. These projects will be implemented soon,” he said.
“Our goal is to transform Nuapada from an aspirational district into a leading district in the state. I assure you that our development efforts for Nuapada will continue. Together, we will make it one of the best districts in the state,” the chief minister said.
Majhi said in the last 15 months, the state government launched numerous development schemes in districts that received less attention from the previous government. “I have taken it upon myself to bridge development disparities among districts, including Nuapada,” he added.
Also acknowledging the popularity of former Nuapada MLA late Rajendra Dholakia and his contribution to Nuapada, especially for the poor and the downtrodden, Majhi praised his ability to maintain respectful relationships with political opponents.
“Jay will fulfill his father’s unfinished agenda,” he said.
Taking a dig at the BJD for fielding an outsider for the bypoll, the chief minister asked, “Is there a shortage of suitable candidates in the BJD that they have to import one from another district?” BJD candidate Snehangini Chhuri is from Bheden block of Bargarh district.
Expressing disappointment over personal attacks on Jay Dholakia by a senior BJD leader, Majhi noted the silence of the party’s top leadership, including Leader of the Opposition and party president Naveen Patnaik. He said Nuapada voters will give a befitting reply to such uncharitable remarks at the ballot box.
Meanwhile the BJD suffered yet another setback as senior leader Lambodar Nial, who unsuccessfully contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election from the Kalahandi seat, joined the BJP along with his supporters at the event.
Deputy chief minister KV Singh Deo, eight other ministers, state BJP president Manmohan Samal, two MPs from Kalahandi, and several MLAs were also present.
