BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday asserted that addressing people’s problems with empathy and sensitivity was the top priority of his government.
After holding his 20th public grievance hearing here, Majhi sanctioned `14.5 lakh in medical assistance through single-window system to 16 people suffering from serious ailments. He also personally met persons with disability and those suffering from critical illness, who were waiting outside the chief minister’s grievance cell and directed officials concerned to take immediate action on their petitions.
The chief minister said that during the 19 state-level grievance hearings, 15,327 complaints had been received, of which 14,519 or 95 per cent had already been successfully resolved.
Speaking to mediapersons, Majhi said, “Empathy, compassion and sensitivity are the guiding principles of our governance. Our government is committed to stand by people in their happiness and distress and reach them during natural calamities and other crises. Wherever there are people’s problems, our government definitely reaches there,” he said.
The state government had declared the unseasonal rainfall in 2024 as a natural disaster and provided assistance. “We have also provided an assistance package for the current floods,” he said.
The CM said, grievance redressal mechanism has also been strengthened at the district, tehsil and block levels. Till the end of July, 2,69,394 grievances had been heard at the district-level, with 87 per cent resolved. Regular hearings by collectors and SPs along with grievance hearings at tehsil and block levels are aimed at resolving issues closer to citizens and reducing the need for repeated visits to the state headquarters, he added.
Deputy chief minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and ministers of Revenue, Health, Transport, Housing and Urban Development, Food Supplies, Cooperation, Fisheries, Higher Education, and senior officials assisted the chief minister at the hearing.
