Three coaches of Chennai Central Express derail in Odisha's Jajpur, none hurt
BHUBANESWAR: Three coaches of the Chennai–New Jalpaiguri Superfast Express derailed on Thursday at Jakhapura Yard under East Coast Railway (ECoR) in Jajpur district, Odisha.
Railway officials said no injuries or fatalities were reported, and all passengers from the affected coaches were safely deboarded.
“The minor derailment occurred around 8.51 am as the train was passing through Jakhapura Yard. One AC coach and two general coaches went off the tracks. The train was moving at very slow speed, which prevented any casualties or major damage,” ECoR sources said.
Accident relief trains (ARTs) from Bhubaneswar and Khurda Road were dispatched to the site, along with accident relief medical equipment (ARME) as a precaution, though no medical assistance was required.
The derailed coaches have been detached, and additional coaches will be attached if needed to ensure passenger convenience and continuation of the journey. Officials said train movement in the area was not disrupted.
Senior railway officials have reached the spot and are overseeing restoration work and safety measures. An inquiry will be conducted to determine the cause of the derailment.
