BHUBANESWAR: The BJD on Sunday alleged that names of 27 lakh voters have been excluded from the electoral roll after the SIR.
Addressing a media-conference, senior vice-president Debi Prasad Mishra and general secretary Bijay Nayak said according to the final electoral roll published in 2025, the state had over 3.40 lakh registered voters. “While publishing the draft electoral roll on Sunday, the office of the chief electoral officer has stated that there are over 3.13 crore voters in the state. Therefore, the total deletions would amount to 27 lakh. There is no consistency among the figures officially provided at different stages,” they added.
Alleging that significant discrepancies have been found in the electoral rolls of several Assembly constituencies, the BJD leaders said out of the 147 seats in the state, more than 10,000 voters each have been excluded in 75, while over 15,000 voters each have been excluded in 49.
Stating that the exclusion of such a large number of voters through the SIR process is a matter of serious concern, the BJD leaders said the objective was to publish a pure and error-free electoral roll which has not been achieved. The BJD leaders have urged the CEO to remove inconsistencies, conduct a fresh verification and restore the names. ENS
