Ornaments worth Rs 11 lakh looted from jewellery shop owner in Odisha

JAJPUR: Armed miscreants allegedly looted gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 11 lakh from a jewellery shop owner after resorting to blank firing on Ghantiali-Mainda road near Dhosara bridge under Binjharpur police limits here on Tuesday night.

The victim is Chandan Kumar Sahu, the owner of Maa Tarini jewellery shop. According to the complaint filed by Chandan with police, he was returning home on a motorcycle after closing his jewellery shop located at Mainda chowk in the night. Near Dhosara bridge, three unidentified armed miscreants on a black motorcycle intercepted him at around 9.00 pm.

The miscreants allegedly fired a blank shot to intimidate him, snatched his bag containing around 20 grams of gold, four kg of silver ornaments, and Rs 10,000 cash before escaping on their bike, alleged Chandan.

On being informed about the incident, Binjharpur police reached the spot for investigation. Chandan later filed a complaint in the police station. Police have initiated raids at multiple locations to identify and nab the miscreants.
