BHUBANESWAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to make a one-day visit to Odisha on June 20 to participate in a state-level celebration marking the completion of two years of the BJP government led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
BJP general secretary Biranchi Narayan Tripathy on Monday told mediapersons that the prime minister will first arrive at Pahadpur in Mayurbhanj at around 11.15 am, and head to Gosani Peetha, a prominent local shrine, to offer his prayers.
Thereafter, he will visit the in-laws’ place of President Droupadi Murmu, where he is likely to spend over an hour interacting with her family members and villagers.
Modi will then proceed to Dandbose, a place near Rairangpur and the venue for the public meeting which is scheduled to start at 12.55 pm. The President will also join the second anniversary programme of the government.
During the event, Modi will address a massive public gathering and launch a slew of infrastructure projects at the event.
The prime minister’s visit assumes significance as it comes amid the state government’s second anniversary celebrations and the Centre’s renewed focus on the infrastructure and economic development of the state.
Tripathy said Modi will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for projects worth several thousand crores of rupees. He said the state government is currently finalising a list of key projects to be dedicated to the people by the prime minister as part of the anniversary celebrations.
Among the key projects likely to be launched include the `8,300 crore Rameshwar-Paradip Coastal Highway project, which recently received approval from the Union cabinet. The project is expected to significantly improve coastal connectivity and boost economic activities in the region.
The prime minister is also likely to lay the foundation stone for the proposed Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Puri-Paradip Economic Region (BCPPER) project, envisioned as a major growth corridor linking the state’s urban, industrial and port hubs.
Prepared by NITI Aayog, the plan envisages implementation of over 80 projects across sectors such as metal downstream industries, biotechnology, textiles, chemicals, tourism, education and IT along with more than 30 policy initiatives to spur investment, infrastructure development and job creation in the region.
Besides, several national highway projects including the 111-km Capital Region Ring Road from Rameshwar to Tangi are also expected to be launched during the prime minister’s visit.
