

JAJPUR: Two persons drowned to death in separate incidents during Holi celebrations in Jajpur district on Wednesday.
In the first incident, a 40-year-old banker drowned while taking bath in Kharasrota river at Jokadia ghat under Kuakhia police limits after Holi celebration on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Sangram Ajitabh Das, a resident of Padmapur in Jajpur Road. Das worked as a senior official in a private bank in Jajpur Road area.
Sources said he had gone to take bath in the river along with four of his friends after playing Holi, when he slipped into the deeper water and drowned. Though his friends tried to rescue him, they failed.
On being informed, fire services personnel reached the spot and recovered the body from the river. Police have seized the body and sent it to the Danagadi CHC for postmortem. An investigation has been launched into the matter.
In the second incident, a 28-year-old youth met a watery grave while bathing in Brahmani river at Khari Padia ghat under Bari-Ramachandrapur police limits after Holi celebrations. The deceased is Hiranya Kumar Behuria of Janpada village under Bari block.
Bari-Ramachandrapur police have sent the body to the district headquarters hospital for postmortem. An unnatural case was registered in this connection.
