CUTTACK: Fire again erupted on the premises of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack late on Friday evening.

The blaze, which erupted from the garbage dumped behind the ENT ward near the new medicine building, spread due to the dry leaves lying on the ground. A security person noticed the fire at around 8.15 pm and alerted the SCB fire station. Fire service personnel rushed to the spot and doused the fire.

While effort to elicit response from SCB MCH superintendent Prof Gautam Satpathy on the incident proved futile, additional superintendent and nodal officer of fire safety Dr Jyotirmaya Nayak said the garbage and dry leaves were set on fire by the attendants of some patients. This is the third fire incident at SCB MCH within the last five days. Twelve patients were killed after a fire broke out at the trauma care ICU on Monday. ENS
