BHUBANESWAR: Vedanta Aluminium has distributed over 300 electric sprayers to farmers across 33 villages in Kalahandi district under project Sangam. Implemented in partnership with AFPRO (Action for Food Production), the initiative aims to promote agricultural mechanisation by introducing modern farm equipment. The dual-mode sprayers, equipped with both battery-operated and manual functions, replace traditional hand-operated knapsack sprayers that require continuous pumping. Traditionally, spraying one acre of farmland requires four to six hours of manual pumping. Farmers can now complete the same task in just two to three hours, resulting in nearly 50 per cent reduction in spraying time. The steady-pressure mechanism also ensures better droplet distribution and crop canopy penetration, enabling more effective crop protection with lower wastage of water and pesticides.
Vedanta Aluminium (alumina business) CEO Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya said, “By providing farmers with access to modern agricultural equipment, we are helping improve farm productivity, optimise resource use and reduce physical drudgery. Through project Sangam, we are empowering farming communities with solutions that build long-term resilience.”
