BHUBANESWAR: The BJD on Wednesday demanded resignation of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who holds the Home portfolio, in connection with the alleged harassment of four devotees near Kapilash temple in Dhenkanal recently.
Addressing a media conference, Biju Mahila Janata Dal president Snehangini Chhuria demanded that the chief minister take moral responsibility over the matter and tender his resignation.
“Since the BJP government came to power in Odisha, incidents of crimes against women have increased significantly. Tourist destinations have become unsafe. This is a matter of shame for the state,” she remarked.
The BJD leader further alleged that despite bringing shame and condemnation nationally and internationally, the government did not take adequate corrective measures. “After Gopalpur, cases of crimes against women have come to light from Bali Harachandi, Dhauli, Rayagada and now Kapilash,” she said.
MLA Manorama Mohanty demanded that the government should go as it had failed to provide security to women. Former State Women’s Commission chairperson Minati Behera said as per NCRB report, Odisha ranked first in crimes against women.
