CHENNAI: K Selvaperunthagai, one of the two MLAs of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), resigned his membership in the State Assembly on Tuesday and joined Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Though the reason for his resigning the Assembly seat was due to difference of opinion with VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan, Selvaperunthagai said his action was to condemn the killing of Tamils in Lanka and the Centre which had been a mere spectator to what was happening in the island nation.
Selvaperunthagai joined the BSP, in the presence of party’s senior functionary and Rajya Sabha MP Ambed Rajan, who was deputed to Chennai by the BSP supremo Mayawati for the function.
Ambed Rajan announced that Selvaperunthagai has been appointed as the party’s president of Tamil Nadu unit. Hundreds of followers of Selvaperunthagai also joined the BSP.
Announcing that he would not contest any election, Selvaperunthagai vowed to work for making Mayawati the Prime Minister of the country.
Asked if by resigning he was betraying the people of his Mangalore constituency in Cuddalore district, Selvaperunthagai told to this website's newspapar that he had completed all electoral promises and than ked Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for implementing various schemes in his constituency.
