SALEM: The Salem District and Namakkal Taluk Lorry Owners’ Associations have announced that they would join the strike against the toll fees collected at Thoppur on Saturday.
In a statement here on Friday, the president of the association Nallathambi said the talks in New Delhi on April 8, between the All India Motor Transport Congress and the Central Government had failed to address the truckers’ demand to reduce the toll fee collected by private operators.
“The Federation of Lorry Owners’ Association in Tamil Nadu, at their executive committee meeting here on Saturday, decided to conduct the protest at the Thoppur toll plaza on April 11. The association had resolved to conduct protests at privately operated toll plazas if the talks failed.
Lorries originating in Salem and Namakkal would not pass through the Thoppur toll gate, which is operated by Reliance.
