CHENNAI: The DMK on Friday laid a virtual chargesheet against the AIADMK in the Assembly on the law and order situation in the State, with a pointed reference to many ugly incidents that took place during Jayalalithaa’s regime.
As soon as the session started, the AIADMK members staged a walkout when they were not allowed to speak on the clash that had taken place between the police and lawyers in the High Court premises here on Thursday. Even the PMK, MDMK, CPI and CPM members wanted to speak on the issue, but the Speaker expelled them en masse from the House.
Earlier, PWD Minister Durai Murugan made a statement in the Assembly on the HC incident under Rule 110 thereby disallowing any debate on the issue.
After the eviction of the entire opposition, including the AIADMK, DMK member Rajan launched a tirade against the previous regime in the State, citing some ugly incidents that had taken place then.
It was during the AIADMK rule that a murderous attack on prisoners in Nagercoil had taken place and Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy, who had a spat with Jayalalithaa, was disgraced publicly by a woman AIADMK MLA, Rajan said.
Even Governor Chenna Reddy was not spared, when he was disgraced by the AIADMK men. The acid attack on IAS officer Chandralekha and also the attack on Congress leader P Chidambaram in the airport took place then, he added.
He recalled that the hotel where Chief Election Commissioner T N Seshan stayed was also targeted by the AIADMK men.
“Then how come the AIADMK talks about the law and order situation in the State when its own track record is so bad,” the DMK member wondered.
He praised the 2009-10 budget for carrying many pathbreaking announcements for the farmers in the State.
