CHENNAI: The backward communities of Udayar, Moopanar and Nainar should be given due importance in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Tamil Nadu Bargava Kula Sangam (TNBKS) urged all political parties.

In a press meet here on Wednesday, president of the high-level committee of TNBKS and Chancellor, SRM University, T R Pachamuthu, said the Udayar, Moopanar and Nainars were the deciding forces in Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Sivaganga, Thanjavur, Tiruchy, Chidambaram, Mayiladuthurai, Namakkal and Ramanathapuram parliamentary constituencies.

“The population of the Bargava communities in the State is around one crore and political parties should choose their candidates from Udayar and Moopanar castes for the identified nine constituencies.

Also, the long time demand of the community for Most Backward Community status must be acceded to, they urged.

“A  huge rally will be held in Kallakurichi on March 29 to reiterate the demands of the Bargava Kula Sangam. We will vote for a party only if its candidate is one among us,” the office bearers said.
